Cool temperatures and light winds have made for favourable riding conditions. Watch for isolated wind slabs as you transition into steeper alpine terrain.
No avalanches observed or reported. today. On Wednesday Lake Louise ski hill reported explosive triggered wind slabs in the size 1-1.5 range out of steep alpine terrain.
20-40 cm of storm snow from last weekend is settling and bonding. Isolated thin wind-slabs exist in high alpine lee aspects. Below ~2300 m a rain crust exists below the storm snow but no avalanche activity has been observed on this layer. The mid and lower snowpack is well settled for this time of year making for easy travel conditions. Tree-line snow depths range from 70-100cm.
A ridge of high pressure builds over the area on Friday and becomes firmly established through the weekend. On Friday winds will be light from the northwest, and valley bottom temperatures will cool to mid-day highs of -10 to -14.
