The new snow appears to be bonding well, but exercise caution as you enter new terrain, as the storm has just recently finished.
Thanks to all the MIN posters for the information - keep it coming!
Minimal results with avalanche control at local ski hills today showed the new snow is generally lacking slab properties.
25-60 cms of new snow over the last 3 days is settling with cold temperatures and light winds. This may be sitting on a variety of surfaces (old windslab / sun crust / surface hoar) but appears to be bonding for now. The lower snowpack is generally well-settled with no significant weak layers; however, a rain crust does exist below ~2300 m. Overall, early-season travel conditions are good at higher elevations, with treeline snow depths of 70–100 cm.
A ridge is building over the region on Tuesday bringing clear skies, cold air and light winds. Winds will increase overnight Tuesday and bring some cloud cover for Wednesday. On Thursday, we will see a few cms of new snow as a small system comes in from the SW.
