The snow surface is highly variable across elevations. In the alpine, small pockets of wind slab may be found in steep terrain at mountain tops where there is no crust. At treeline and below, exposed areas have a mix of crust and wind-affected snow, while sheltered terrain still holds soft snow.
The mid and lower snowpack are generally well-settled and bonded, with no layers of concern.
