Avalanche Forecast

No slab avalanches have been reported in the past 3 days. Skier triggered dry loose avalanches in steep terrain have been reported over the past 3 days.

Up to 5 cm of new snow may accumulate by Sunday morning. This new snow will be accompanied by moderate southerly winds forming wind slab on north aspects. In sheltered terrain this new snow may overlie soft, faceted snow or surface hoar. In exposed terrain it will overlie a sun crust or wind-affected snow.

30 to 50 cm overlies a weak layer from late January. In most areas, it is a hard slippery crust, however, on shady, upper-elevation slopes, it may be faceted grains or surface hoar. This layer hasn't been producing avalanches, but may become a problem when more snow arrives.

The mid and lower snowpack is strong and bonded.

Saturday Night

Cloudy with 1 to 3 cm of snow. 20 to 40 km/h south ridgetop wind. Treeline temperature -5 °C, potential for inversion with colder temperatures at valley bottom.

Sunday

Mostly cloudy with trace amounts of snow. 10 to 30 km/h southwest ridgetop wind. Treeline temperature -4 °C.

Monday

Cloudy in the morning and sunny in the afternoon. 10 to 20 km/h west ridgetop wind. Treeline temperature -4 °C.

Tuesday

Mix of sun and cloud. 10 to 20 km/h southwest ridgetop wind. Treeline temperature -2 °C, potential for inversion with colder temperatures at valley bottom.

• The snowpack is generally stable; it may be appropriate to step out into more complex terrain.
• Be careful with wind-loaded pockets, especially near ridge crests and rollovers.
• Be careful with sluffing in steep terrain, especially above cliffs and terrain traps.
