Monitor surface conditions as you travel, especially as you transition into wind affected terrain.

Wind and mild temperatures may form fresh and reactive slabs.

Avalanche Summary

Avalanche activity on Saturday was limited to size 1 slabs from wind affected terrain. Looking forward, warm temperatures and wind may build fresh and reactive wind slabs.

Observations remain limited this early in the season. If you head into the backcountry, please post to the Mountain Information Network.

Snowpack Summary

Surface conditions vary from wind affected surfaces in exposed terrain at higher elevations, and settling snow in sheltered areas that may include a layer of surface hoar buried 5 to 10 cm deep.

Overall, the snowpack is generally well-bonded and settled with crusts present in the mid to lower snowpack.

Snow depths at treeline range from 80 to 150 cm, with depths rapidly tapering off at lower elevations.

Weather Summary

Sunday Night

Partly cloudy with no snowfall expected. 20 to 40 km/h southwest ridgetop winds. Treeline temperature -7 °C.

Monday

A mix of sun and cloud. 30-50 km/h southwest ridgetop winds. An above freezing layer will bring treeline temperatures to 0 °C.

Tuesday

Mostly cloudy. 5 cm possible for the Cariboos. 20 to 40 km/h southwest ridgetop wind. The above freezing layer holds treeline temperatures around 0 °C.

Wednesday

Cloudy. 20 to 30 km/h southwest ridgetop wind. The above freezing layer holds treeline temperatures around 0 °C.

More details can be found in the Mountain Weather Forecast.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Watch for newly formed and reactive wind slabs as you transition into wind-affected terrain.
  • Be careful with wind-loaded pockets, especially near ridge crests and rollovers.

Avalanche Problems

Wind Slabs

Watch for fresh wind slabs forming on east and north facing slopes, mild temperatures may increase reactivity.
