The snow surface is highly variable. Exposed terrain at treeline and above has a mix of crust and hard wind-affected snow, while sheltered terrain still holds soft snow. A crust is on or near the surface on all aspects below treeline.
The mid and lower snowpack are generally well-settled, with no layers of concern.
