Large surface hoar is growing on the surface in most areas, particularly where sheltered. Melt-freeze crusts are found on sun-exposed slopes and at lower elevations.

Sheltered, shaded higher elevations may still hold pockets of soft snow, but past melt-freeze cycling and strong winds mean firm surfaces predominate.

Snowpack height at treeline is 140 - 170 cm in the Knuckles. Heights are less certain on the North Shore but have likely diminished since readings of 150 - 200 cm during the recent storms. They diminish rapidly below treeline.

Cloudy with isolated flurries. 25 - 30 km/h west ridgetop wind. Freezing level 600 m.

Thursday

Cloudy with isolated flurries. 15 - 25 km/h west ridgetop wind. Treeline temperature -3 °C. Freezing level 700 m.

Friday

Cloudy with scattered flurries bringing less than 5 cm of new snow, continuing overnight. 20 - 40 km/h southwest ridgetop wind. Treeline temperature -4 °C. Freezing level 800 m.

Saturday

Cloudy with continuing flurries bringing new snow totals to 5 - 10 cm. 25 - 30 km/h southwest ridgetop wind. Treeline temperature -3 °C. Freezing level reaching 1100 m.

• Carefully evaluate steep lines for wind slabs.
• Use caution above cliffs and terrain traps where even small avalanches may have severe consequences.
• A hard crust on the snow surface will help strengthen the snowpack, but may cause tough travel conditions.
