Avalanche Summary

Our limited field data suggests a natural avalanche cycle occurred in the past few days as rain and warm temperatures infiltrated the region.

Please consider submitting your observations to the Mountain Information Network.

Snowpack Summary

New snow accumulates atop a crust or moist snow from rain in the past few days. Strong winds will redistribute new snow and create heavily wind-affected surfaces.

The remainder of the snowpack is strong, with various hard layers and crusts.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Be alert to conditions that change with elevation, aspect, and exposure to wind.
  • Avoid freshly wind-loaded features, especially near ridge crests, rollovers, and in steep terrain.

Avalanche Problems

Storm Slabs

Recent snowfall and wind have formed fresh storm slabs at upper elevations. They will be deepest and most reactive in wind-loaded terrain.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Alpine, Treeline.

Likelihood: Possible - Likely

Expected Size: 1 - 2.5

Loose Wet

A weak, rain-saturated upper snowpack may still produce loose wet avalanches.

Aspects: All aspects.

Elevations: Below Treeline.

Likelihood: Unlikely - Possible

Expected Size: 1 - 2.5
