A surface crust may exist early in the morning, but we expect it to break down quickly with sunshine and warming. The snow below is likely wet.
A thick crust can be found 5 to 25 cm deep at treeline and above. The snowpack below this crust is well settled and strong. At lower elevations, the snowpack is quickly disappearing or is isothermal.
