Quick Observation

Wolf den area for quick recon . I was curious to see how far up the weekend rain made it up in kalum range . From the sled parking area on the FSR the freezing level would have been raining there . Was rain runnels after skiing to the main area at the bottom of the run and gradually got thinner to about 3 cm MFCr . There was well developed SH 5-10 mm in most areas . Closer to the top the MFCr got thick once again , probably due to the warm air mass moving over the cold front that was against the mountain right at the FZL . Near the top where this transition was there was also more of a rime crust right at the surface instead of the surface hoar like there was below . Ski quality was super poor but made it work with mini hops were the crust was not supportive and breakable . This area will be super reactive with this incoming storm . Can't think of a less ideal gliding layer and interface to have as surface hoar on a melt freeze . Be cautious on re visits to this area unless evidence of a natural cycle unless there is proof the wind hit this sucker before the storm came in today ( still be really diligent in protected areas ) .
