Saturday was extremely stormy with a rapid warmup around noon to FL approximately 600 m. Surprisingly there was approximately 30 cm new snow at the end of the road by Saturday afternoon and snowing heavily. Natural avalanche cycle occurred during the storm to size 2 - Lots of rumbling in the valley all day on all aspects and debris observed on Sunday. Strong south wind even below treeline all day and overnight. By Sunday morning at 950 m there was 50-60 cm storm snow over the crust. Snow was poorly bonded to the crust and whumfing frequently on shallow slopes. Fresh cornices on all lee ridges observed and lots of evidence of the natural cycle. We stuck to mellow trees and headed home with tails tucked.
