Windy pow!

Today we had many red flags pop out at us as we travelled through terrain at tree line and alpine. We stepped back from our plan A to plan B keeping it more conservative. There was a lot more wind activity than expected in the area ,more so at alpine elevations in the wide open. The new storm snow had a stiff slab within the storm slab that was probably made with the high winds that came with the storm the last 24 hours. The storm snow was about 50cm thick and the density change of the stiff slab was down about 20cm. Below the storm snow there is faceted snow from the cold snap we got. Not a good recipe for the warming we are about to get…I’ll be stepping back for the next little while waiting to see what happens to the snow with the rise in temps we’re about to get…
