Where’s Goldilocks ?!

South Rockies

Exciting times on the way in to Mear Lake today as we came across three fluffy well-fed bears enjoying the excellent grooming on the trail (thanks @rideelkford !) …. No pictures i’m afraid, but exciting times for sure! Up at the ‘Lake’ at 2000 m, we found a weak, shallow snowpack (45 cm of facets to ground). There was no wind today, and with good visiblity into the Alpine (from a distance) we saw no natural avalanches, nor any sign of wind deposition, no cornices, no wind slab. Temperatures were steady at around -5, winds were calm, the sky had only scattered clouds, and the sky was blue ….. joy ! We spent time working with our transceivers and polishing our rescue skills …. Always time well spent ! Definitely plenty of early-season-rocks-’n-stumps out there A-Arm fans !
