Quick Observation

Evidence of snow transport at the highway from S winds close to the Summit. Very wind affected everywhere. Snow varied from new soft slabs to old rain crust with everything in between. Widespread whumpfing and shooting cracks inspired us to stay on low angle terrain and away from large features. East aspect (facing highway) in front of Feather towards the notch was especially bad. Also, as soon as we got close to any wind loaded feature, we got more whumpfs and cracks. We felt like it would have been very easy to get in trouble by pushing towards more complex terrain. Sunny, warm, winds calm to moderate alternating from S to W depending on location. Not many great turns were made, but awesome day for a tour in the alpine. (pic 1-East aspect, towards "Feather notch", pic 2-Some sweet crust, pic 3-A lot more crust, looking S towards Feather and Cleveland).
