bonnington blues

Alas, bonnington blues not for the early szn alder or open water (good skiing above!) but for signs of the the Dec 5th SH. More notes in snowpack.

Calm morning. Evidence of recent warming to 1900m with icicles and tree bombs.

HS improves considerably above 1500m ! Above 1700m HS 70-100cm. Surface was rimed pow. Above 1750m noticed isolated pockets of 10-12mm SH on uptrack (mainly W-SW aspects). **On a hasty pit 1900m on a W aspect 2cm knife hard rain crust down 50cm above continuous layer of 20+mm SH. Below this a second ice layer variable thickness ~75cm and then sugar to ground. No signs of DH.
