Log cabin observations Mid storm cycle Jan 5, 2018 It's snowing. At 1100 there was 18cm HST at parking lot. By 1300 there was 23 cm. Snow over 2cm/hour mid day. Temps steady at -6c. Light northwest wind at highway elevation increased to a strong (over 30km/hr) NW in the alpine. We skinned up to subalpine. Snow depth varies in sheltered areas from 120 to 155cm, with a melt freeze crust down about 60 cm. Weak base with lots of facets around trees and boulders. New snow is starting to show signs of windslab. Visibility in alpine was poor. We stuck to low angle terrain where snow in trees was really nice.
