Is It Warm Yet?

It was another cold day at Core Lodge with temperatures in the -20s. Variable winds from over the last week had left hard slab in all but the most sheltered locations. We checked out the alpine and found that many areas had been scoured right down to the ground. Southwest winds picked up around noon and it started to snow. While the stiff old slab has grown stubborn in tests, we were wary of any fresh wind slabs forming on northeasterly aspects. Our hunt for good riding took us through dense trees and into sheltered creek beds where there was still some deep powder to be found.
