Mt Murray Yellowhawk Trail

Beautiful day on the Yellowhawk Trail to the Mt Murray cabin and onto Mt Greenbury. -5 Degrees or so, fresh snow and the skin track was in. We were aware of the windslab hazard so selected a cautious approach to the steeper slopes and investigated the snowpack before committing. Snowpack very stable and well consolidated below the most recent storm snow. Great day in the hills

Warming Temps triggered MultipleTree Bombs at lower elevations. Tree Tops were bare of snow along skin track from previous wind. Open meadows were windy (South Winds) with the skin track filling in in places. Some visible South facing ridge lines were scoured across the valley.

HS 160cm Compression Test (2) @ 1827m on North Facing 31 Degree Slope of Mt Greenbury. CTM 13/14 Down 35cm (Storm Snow) on Facets / Hoar Frost. CTM 23/24 Down 130cm on Depth Hoar. Snow Pack well consolidated from 130cm Down. Bottom 30cm very loose sugar hoar. Both failure planes dropped suddenly and broke clean. Both compression tests yielded same results. ECT not performed due to immature vegetation within the pit area. No evidence of wind slabs on the slopes we skied.
