Quick Observation

The clouds hung low at about 1100m (see picture) for the day, the snow below the ceiling was quite heavy and a little damp whereas above the ceiling the snow was rock hard with a supportive crust. The rock hard snow made travel easy in treeline and above (although maybe some snow crampons are warranted if you are travelling on steeper slopes). The weather above the clouds was beautiful and sunny which turned cloudy around 6pm Jan 16th. No wind on Jan 16th, light SW wind on Jan 17th with some light freezing rain around 7am. In the alpine there were a few pockets of windswept snow a few cm deep, but I avoided these and kept to the break-your-teeth ice crust. Travel in this area all begins at Mamquam road, so be prepared for a few hours of sled-affected logging roads and take it easy on the way down.
