A real winter stormy kind of day in the Cariboos above McBride today with gusty winds and snowfall up to three centimeters per hour at times. Lucille Mtn had some great powder in the trees and meadows but open areas in the alpine had been quite wind swept and had poor visibility as well. We didn’t see any new avalanches but it was hard to really tell in the heavy snowfall and bad light what was going on at ridgetop. We stuck to treeline and below for the most part. There was around 15cm of new snow from overnight and throughout the day overtop of the previous storm snow. We had limited results in our snowpack tests (ECTX / CTH 21 SC down 30 on MFcr) and were unable to find the weak layer of surface hoar that’s been reported in other parts of the Cariboos.
