Ice - Louse Falls

Grant P, Sunday 27th December, 2020 6:00PM

Snow levels: Generally around knee to thigh deep below the climb. Above the climb the pocket slope had a fair bit accumulated and the steeper wall behind it had snow covering it and some of the trees. I did observe some minor sluffing but it just gathered where it fell. Didn't screw around poking it to see how deep etc. The walk off is fairly well established and even though it crosses a couple slopes I didnt see any red flags. Temps were around -10c ish and little wind around all day. No observed avi activity over on Fairview either. The up track in the trees had filled in a little so we walked up the otter slide but I left via the up track to try opening it up for travel seeing as it has less objective hazard by the trees. The climb: Middle at the base is good but the groove just to its right has thin ice/rock on the right. Decent ice to the cave but a little damp getting into the left side of the cave. Still just possible to pass behind the main pillar. From the left side going to the groove in the middle of the left pillar looked a nice line from the ground. It was reported as a good stem a few days ago but now is very wet right of the groove. Screws had to be places in the middle or left of the groove. Right side is deep new chandelier and very wet. Tools would shear and stemming into it your foot disappears into water and cascading chandelier. The direct line above the pillar to the top out was also wet but dryer left of the direct line. Snow, dirt, and roots for the top out.

Weather Report

With barely any breeze the temps around an estimated -10c never seemed too cold.
