Drabble Drama

Vancouver Island

AvCan Vancouver Island , Tuesday 18th February, 2025 3:15PM

We went sledding around Mt Drabble today. Conditions were not up to much. The top 5 cm of recent snow was moist and a surface crust was forming at 1250 m. Avalanche problems, on the other hand, were something to note. We found a weak layer of surface hoar/facets 35 cm below the surface. Which produced sudden moderate results in snowpack tests. With one anomalous very easy result. Below this layer, the January drought crust still exists, with rounding facets in between it and the surface hoar layer above. These two layers are on our minds with the arrival of new snow tonight.
