Pulpit Knob

anthony.stielow, Saturday 8th February, 2025 10:38PM

Skied Pulpit Knob. The sun was out in force today and was baking the south face of the knob. The snow is deep, 275cm depth, and there is 40-60 cm of powder but the quality is highly variable depending on aspect and elevation. By 1pm the sun had done a number to the storm snow and things were getting pretty heavy in this top layer. We noted pinwheels and balling snow and decided to head home. As expected, we experienced some easy shearing between then new snow/old snow interface at lower elevations where the trees hadn't kept it shaded. At upper elevations we still found powder light enough to have few good runs but I would think by tomorrow the snow on this south face will have a sun crust on top.
