We spent the day north of Sparwood today and found that the recent HST has settled into 25 - 30cm over various surfaces of crusts and wind slabs. This recent snow seems to be bonding well, there was no obvious signs of instabilities like shooting cracks or whumping. We did see a few recent avalanches in steep north-facing terrain that looked to be +24 hours old and triggered by small chunks of cornice and propagating below a rock face. There were light winds throughout the day and afternoon flurries that were heavy at times and accumulated up to 5 cm of new snow. As we left the sun came out which provided some warmth from the cooler -6.5 temperature in the alpine. The snow was amazing in sheltered areas.
