Today we kept things simple due to the cold weather. While in the Fernie backcountry, we observed a few size 1 and 2 storm slabs in Liverwurst that were released during Tuesday’s cycle. Below 1200 m we found a supportive crust that made for a challenging up-track but above that things improved quickly. As we got closer to the treeline the storm snow was right side up and made for pretty good turns. We continually assessed for slab properties as we gained elevation and avoided wind-loaded features.
