Quick Observation

First day out at White Pass. Pretty foggy and shitty snow conditions (mix of freezing rain crust, wind crust and wet snow in the process of freezing) so we rode mellow slopes on the East ridge of Fraser Peak. Dug a pit (see picture, sorry its sideways!) in wind-loaded area facing NE at around 1000m elevation. 120cm snowpack or so, but probed around and most places have 45-70cm base. Maybe more now with Saturday Dec 16th's storm. What snowpack looked like from top to bottom: Freezing rain / Freezing Fog crust 10cm recent storm snow Rain crust 10cm transformed snow, spring style 65cm consolidated snow rounding 35cm depth hoar Got mixed results compression and shovel shear tests. Some easy breaks on top 10cm and medium 20cm, but no breaks deep down.
