First trip out this season, -30c at the trailhead, warmed to -20c Approx as we gained elevation. Previous skin track was snowed in, we broke trail into the bowl. Snow was cold and fluffy but not very fast. Our game plan was a recon trip, testing out new gear. We did not ski the slopes above the base of the bowl. No sign of avalanche activity. We did observe some drifting on the skin track, so there may be loading / cross loading in the open trees / glades.
Was a beautful day, a little cold until we gained elevation and found the sun.
We didn't dig a pit, but checked snow pack depth at 1700m with a probe on a south aspect. Snow depth was 1.2m with 25cm of cold fresh storm snow on top of an apparently well consolidated base. No signs of avalanche activity from our vantage point in the base of the bowl
