Ryan Park Ski Hill (Logged Area on the East Side)

I skied from the base of the Ryan Park Ski Hill to the recently logged area just east of the main run area (8,400') and noticed that the shallow snowpack frequently collapsed as I skinned up the hill. The persistent weak layer remains and can be triggered more easily in the shallow snowpack. The N-E-S facing slopes have been wind affected, with the west wind scouring snow on the W slopes and depositing some of it on the leeward east side of the ridge(s). Slopes over 30 degrees (especially N-E at lower elevations) are not advised due to the persistent weak layer not only potentially relasing the top wind loaded slab but also potentially stepping down and releasing most of the snowpack, particularly with the warmer temperatures (43 degrees at 8:00 p.m.) and added melt freeze crusts forming within the snowpack (creating additional instability). Watch for wind loaded areas as well (N-E-S aspects). My pit results yielded ECTP13 (45cm from the ground/30cm from the top of the snowpack) and PST65/75end.
