Quick Observation

Partner was stuck in a north east facing open treed slope so we decided to dig a pit in the hole that we dug the sled out of. Pit was approximately 4.5 feet deep. Noticed a fracture at hit 25, about 4’ down. Pulled the block off, but was still somewhat bonded. What we also noticed was when we pulled the block off, it must have fractured below our feet because we were able to pull a 10” tall block out of the snow with a clean break. Unfortunately we didn’t/couldn’t see which hit made it fracture. We didn’t do a second pit as it was late afternoon and time to head back. Total depth from the fresh snow to where the block fractured would be about 5’ deep.
