The Golden and District Search and Rescue team has been up at Sentry Lodge refreshing avalanche rescue and winter skills. We arrived Nov 21st at the start of the storm and have been skiing mellow alpine slopes and glades. We have also been refreshing our AvSAR response and patient care in winter environments.
Avalanche Information
Skier stomping on a wind loaded pocket. Rapid propagation of storm slab. Ran on old surface. Rapid wind loading occurring on the slope.
Weather
The storm has finished with a drop in temperature. Winds remained light to moderate from the West. Up to 46cm of snow fell in the storm and is settling quickly.
Snowpack
50cm of recent storm snow buries the Nov19 melt freeze crust below 2200m and above this elevation a progressively resistant snowpack to ground. There was moderate wind loading in lee alpine ridge features. No notable weak layers found in profiles so far.
