Today we did the 4 Bowl traverse from the 2000 bench to the top of Hildas. We stayed out of the main chutes higher up the ridges and skied some of the less committing terrain as we made our way across the bowls. The skiing was extremely variable - powder, wind pack, sun crust, sastrugi. Conditions on the E/SE facing slopes were not as sun affected/crusty as expected but N/NW terrain was extremely wind affected. Hildas was the best skiing all day in the more sheltered terrain.
Multiple old crowns were visible under the steep headwalls of Liverworst and Big Steep Mother. Most likely triggered by Cornice fall during the recent warming.
The day started out clear and sunny but clouds rolled in early morning and stopped any major warming. We observed some odd upslope wind while standing on Liverworst ridge before dropping into Big Steep.
