Quick Observation
Out to enjoy a sunny walk & talk snow science with mentee. Goals accomplished. T shirt weather. Just some ladies playing it safe and scoping out the ‘pack. CT and ECT on pit dug down to 145cm. Snow depth >270cm (probe measurement maxes out at 270). 1530m 30 degree W slope. 10C. 4F-1F down to the crust. Snow is rounding well. Couldn’t find any facets. Snowpack reasonably well consolidated down to the crust. 15 down CTM17 SP storm snow layer 20 down CTM19 SP 110 down CTH24 SP, early Feb crust ECTN13 and no other results. Approach: parked at 570 with an SUV. Lots of worker vehicles. Walked until ~780 until transition to skinning. Skied down until 800m. Skiing: little bit of trees before the road were enjoyable. West coast powder. A little heavy but just enough float to enjoy the mellow slopes. Tree bombs and pin wheeling - as expected given the nuking sun.
