Winter arrived fast this week! During our snowmobile training day on Frisby, we travelled to ridgecrest in deep snow with very limited visibility. Snowfall was steady all day with roughly 10 to 15 cm accumulating, all the way down to the parking lot. At 2000 m we saw 120 to 150 cm of total snow depth.
Riding conditions are decent up high, but visibility was poor enough that we couldn’t put eyes on any avalanche terrain. Below about 1700 m the snowpack is still very bottomless, and we saw several riders getting badly stuck. The new snow is tempting, but travel at mid and lower elevations remains challenging.
Note, the Frisby road is pretty heavily whooped right now, the groomer hasn’t been able to use the blade yet, figure that into your travel plans.
