Quick Observation

With the absence of any real avalanche problems today we got some steep skiing in near Hartley Lake. New snow in the forecast will continue to bury the surface hoar layer potentially raising the avalanche hazard. It was snowing almost 1cm per hour during the time we were in the field. The surface hoar in this area was small (5mm) and was buried by today's new snow. We were expecting winds to increase through the day however it remained calm and at a treeline ridge at 2100m there was no evidence of new wind slabs.
