Quick Observation
Skied Feb 9-12 in the Anderson Cabin area. Extensive surface hoar on old rain crust observed on slopes and in meadows at and below tree-line on Feb 9 prior to 15-20cm snowfall Feb 9-10. Light to moderate wind during the storm from the S/SW. Temps ranged -8 to 0 at 1200m with mostly clear skies Feb 10-12. Whumpfing and shooting cracks observed in isolated cross loaded and lee terrain at tree-line on Feb 10 and 11. Several size 1 and 1.5 skier triggered avalanches on steep alpine and tree-line convexities. Numerous naturals observed up to size 2 from steep E and N alpine aspects. The best skiing was found in the alpine and at tree-line on mellow W through N/NE aspects.
Avalanche Information
3 skier trigger avalanches on Feb 11. All avalanches occurred in the 1200-1350m elevation range. One size 1 wind slab avalanche was triggered on a short steep East facing slope at 1350m while ascending. Several whumpfs were observed in the vicinity and the avalanche was intentional/expected. One ski cut on a NE aspect ridge crest convexity triggered a size 0.5 which sympathetically/remotely triggered a larger avalanche (Sz 1.5) on the slope below.
