Bow Summit check in

JT Pelham, Friday 8th November, 2024 11:00PM
Went for short walk today at bow summit, to have a peek at conditions and see if I remembered how to pizza. Very busy out there with tracks on anything close to covered. 1 party in the flower and plenty of tracks in the dog leg, we kept it mellow with a few laps on in the Christmas trees. Temps were hovering around 0 or just below, snowing S-1 for the few hours we were out with very limited visibility (no naturals observed), Overall light winds with the occasional gust from the south. A couple little hasty pits around treeline and just below to get a feel for the snowpack had me come away with the following summary: 45-50cm average HS around tree line. 8cm of low density Hst overlies a layer of 25 cm of moist snow 4F (just beginning to freeze up on its upper boundary at our high point of ~2350m) below this is a facet/crust to ground (10-15cms)complex presumably from mid/late October, which was also holding moisture. Overall the ski quality was mid, it wasn’t upside down but you could definitely feel the heavy/sticky snow underneath, particularly when skiing previously tracked terrain.
