Pemberton Icefield. What a gem.
Insanely easy access thanks to the Rutherford FSR and the Pemberton Snowmobile Club.
We toured around, enjoying the visibility and sunshine, getting to know the area. Observed natural wind slabs around size 1.5,.mostly lee to the southwest winds, that looked a day or two old, hard to tell. Lots of small loose wet and roller balls out of all steep terrain and rock features, active during the day.
A thin crust on the surface of the snow from previous warm temps. Didn't make a difference to sledding but might not make skiing very pleasant.
We dug at 1650m on NE and W facing slopes (off the glacier), curious about the Jan 30th persistent weak layer. Found it 20-40cm deep, with the facets immediately above the crust producing hard resistant planar results on a column test and non propagating ECT results.
Great day in a spectacular place
