Quick Observation

Remote triggered Size 2 slab avalanches running fast and far (from ridgecrest up to 30m away) on both sides of the ridge, NW and SE aspects.

Avalanche Information

Do not underestimate the sensitivity and size of possible avalanches on the surface hoar layer. We chose to step out into bigger terrain today and immediately stepped back into areas that had already slid, as a safe means of retreat. Continue to select low angle conservative terrain to ski. We did not observe any signs of instability until triggering these large avalanches. Remote triggered Size 2 slab avalanches running fast anvd far, up to 400m into gullies or low angle slopes below. Avalanches occuring on both sides of the ridge, NW and SE aspects at 2020m. These avalanches are running on the Jan 27 surface hoar layer and are up to 70cm deep. We observed shooting cracks from the remote trigger propagating through alpine features around into the next start zone over. These avalanches were in moderately treed lower angle start zones on the NW side of the ridge as well as in steep alpine features (SE, Mt Fernie ridge, chute 3rd over from walking track).
