Quick Observation

Great sledding today in the Wolverine, over the hood blower powder on the North Lee loaded aspects (40-50 cm light powder snow) . We poked at the Pyramid slopes across the meadow from Pyramid Mountain and the snow was great. The air temperature was a concern; creeks are open and air temperature was above zero degrees at 5,000 feet and + 5 degrees at 2,500 feet of elevation. We observed some slab avalanche activity on cross loaded and wind loaded leeward Alpine slopes (off the peaks) , no avalanches observed at lower elevations however all windward slopes are wind pressed, windslabs remain a concern. Here are some technical snowpack results we found at 5,000 feet of elevation on a North Face: CTH 25 down 60 cm on Rounding facets/graupel SP (x2) CTH 29 down 100 cm on melt freeze crust and rounding facet interface RP (2) Extended column test provided no results (ECT X) Hand resistance tests : Fist -4Finger- 1Finger until the Facet/Graupel interface down 60cm (CTH 25) Increased consolidation of 1Finger+ until 100 cm down with 4 Finger resistance down 100cm in snowpack below melt freeze crust (CTH 29)
