30cm ski pen came to rest on a 10cm thick crust. Below crust was weak layers of variable snow and facets that would not support the weight of my ski pole when slight downward pressure was applied. Pole went in full length(130cm) in many places on up track once you penetrated the widespread crust. Lots of settlement/whoompfs as we travelled and many pockets of hollow sounding snow. It became apparent that this wasn’t a good day to be here so we returned to our vehicle via our uptrack.
