Our party was not involved in this, nor did we see it first hand. We are just estimating what happened based on the evidence. Since no other MIN report was reported, we decided to do so.
While doing the Dolomite circuit, we noticed this small slab avalanche in the final terrain trap just before hitting the trees. While we didn't observe the actual avalanche, the evident strongly suggests it was skier triggered. As shown by the tracks in the image, it appears that another party went part way up the slope (see up track on image right), and then decided to traverse down, triggering the slide. The image shows two ski tracks entering the slide, and 1 ski track / 1 boot track leaving it. I assume someone lost their skis but were able to walk out. We were very surprised to see the up track on this slope as it is a fairly obvious feature (and perhaps not as surprised to see the resulting slide). There were also lots of other lower traversing tracks that were exposed to this very large slope. This MIN isn't to shame those folks, but instead to serve as a reminder that touchy avalanche slopes are still out there, and that it is easy to get sucked into skiing them after this long dry winter.
