Quick Observation

Open terrain at all elevations had a firm supportive wind slab with a few pockets of soft snow in the trees. No new avalanches, cracking, or whumpfs. We dug pits on several aspects to test the persistent weak layer in the snowpack. A layer of weak faceted snow above a hard crust could be found everywhere 80-130 cm deep (and up to 170 cm in wind loaded terrain). Our snowpack test suggested the layer is weakest on northwest-northeast aspects at treeline elevations.
