Quick Observation
Beautiful, cold, crisp day! Also, way more wind than forecasted. At ridgetop, wind was mostly strong, coming mainly from the NW/N/NE. Its effects were felt quickly on the knolls, and picked up intensity on the Dome and once on the Zimacord Ridge were wind was extreme. Most of the alpine looked already wind scoured by the end of the morning, with several signs of heavy wind transport, wind slabs development and a few natural size 0.5 to 1.5, most notably on the darkside of the Dome, in Fishbowl and Superbowl. I lowered down today’s objective, by not going into high alpine and steep & very complex terrain and we enjoyed really good skiing in the sun instead, and less exposed (to wind) alpine and subalpine runs as well as excellent riding in the trees.
