Quick Observation

Numerous large whumpfs in shallow, rocky terrain on approach to hut. Moderate to strong SW winds built wind slabs on lee aspects Feb. 23-24. NW winds overnight Feb. 24 caused widespread hard slab and sastrugi. 50-75cm height of snow on lower Peyto glacier. 150-300cm snow coverage depending on aspect and exposure on upper Peyto glacier and icefield.

Avalanche Information

Mt. Baker: Sz 2-2.5 windslab avalanche observed on E-SE aspect. Slide initiated below cornice on south ridge and appeared to step down to an older interface half way down (not visible in picture). Avalanche began at 3000m and ran 200m.
