On the very last bit of the skin to South Side we caused a mini slab (under 100cm x 50cm x 25cm deep) of new snow to shift on top of a 5cm crust. It was in a lee feature behind a cluster of tiny trees and on a SW aspect, but the 25cm slab sheared off under half body weight so it was definitely a surprise. Happened when trying to pass the party in front of us, so we all paused and they dug an ECT on the NW aspect since that's where we'd be skiing. I don't have the exact result from the test to relay, but we all felt confident that it was better and that the same suspected sun crust was not apparent. Me and my partner still toned it down on the steepest section of South Side as a precaution. More new snow than we were expecting up there and the riding was phenomenal until the melt-freeze crust lower down. Small amounts of new snow on top of that crust made it more bearable though.
