Amazing riding quality on first ride down east facing bowl. Soft breakable wind crust on about 20-25 cm of powder on top of the big crust. Good but variable riding quality on SE facing bowl slope. Higly wind affected, some wind slabs potential on small isolated loaded pockets.
Dug 2 pits at 1800m east facing about 30* slope , spread apart by about 10m. Average snow depth about 110-115cm. about 5 cm of powder sitting on a wind crust of about 2-3 cm on top of 10-15 cm of powder sitting on a 10-15 cm rain/melt crust. Wind crust cracked but did not slide by it self at about 6 elbows taps, uneven sliding surface seems well bonded. able to collapse big crust only with big force 2-3 extra strenght taps after 10 elbow taps. and didn't break even. Rutchblock collapsed first crust unevenly with 2 small jumps and we were able to collapse big crust unevenly with about 2-3 big jumps but did not slide at any point. No propagation at all on propagation test. Dug 2 pit at 2000m SE facing, about 30*, about 15 m apart and in the sun since we begin to have doubt about the snowpack on that face ( even if there was 2 sleds tracks from previous day and skin track up before us). Snow depth about 120-130 cm. Found similar result, triggered a 10 cm slab at 7 elbow taps with uneven break. Unable to collapse anything else. No propagation at all. To resume, no planar surface breaks and no easy breakage. Snow seemed to be bonded to layers of concern and we had good confidence on the snowpack. Lots of tracks from skis and a few sleds on south and easy facing sloped with no trigger points anywhere.
