As I rode up towards the edge of the mountain top I witnessed the cracking from just off the other side where the slope angle was well over 40 degrees. The crack propagated both directions well over 50 yards from where I initially saw the failure. The crown was approximately 2’-3’ from what I could observe. The avalanche traveled quickly down through the trees below and must have went at least hundred yards.
