Cain you believe that storm?

Vancouver Island

We headed into Mount Cain's backcountry today to see the state of the snow after the storm, and to hopefully get an idea of what we might be in for when this wall of warm air hits us tomorrow. The new snow from the past 5 days was settling beautifully, but there is evidence of large to very large avalanches that have occurred throughout the storm. In our snow pit on a south aspect, we found 95 cm of storm snow and a total depth of 250 cm. There is a rain crust that can be found down 60 cm from the rain that occurred on March 9. While we did not get any significant results in our snowpack tests, we are very interested to see how the snow reacts to this upcoming warming event. With the avalanche danger at considerable, we picked a mellow line down and enjoyed some soft turns at the top, mashed potatoes by the bottom.
