Suprise pass surprisingly bad

mitche_freaked, Friday 28th February, 2025 7:00AM
Going up to the saddle was very straightforward, easy going. At the saddle, wind affect was very evident and only got worse. The down hill skiing was crusty(both from wind and sun) The moraines have all been stripped of of their snow, made for interesting route finding as we could see fresh evidence of slides coming down on the south facing slopes. They brought down some considerable sized rocks and boulders with them. No boot pack needed to ascend up to the pass. Snow in the sun and close to the rocks were getting very warm by this point and were starting to move and pinwheel(11:00am top of the pads). The ski down from the pass was terrible. Built proof, wind blasted to whatever hard layer that was. Looking at all the other drainage features beside the main shoot. It was clear all of the wind slabs that had formed had slid. Some what fresh debrie in every little shoot or couloir. The main shoots wind slab slide 3/4 length into the last gully(below treeline) before the right turn back to the lake. So save yourself the trip. I wouldn't come back after a storm or two...or 3. Worst skiing I have seen all year. Pretty views though
