Where did the snow go?

For new avalanches today we only observed one very small wet loose from a cutbank slope below treeline. Even with the lack of new avalanche activity, the warm temperatures and sunny skies kept us away from all avalanche terrain while we wait for the snowpack to adjust to the new load.
The Crowsnest sustained some injuries during this warm spell. Significant loss of snow at lower elevations had us sledding some long dirt patches on the access road. The snowpack is very shallow with 95 cm at 2200 m (ridge feature in Window) so pretty much the deepest area.
The clouds and light winds kept the surface snow cooler than we anticipated. That said, the snowpack below 1800 m is generally wet to ground and not supportive to boots or skis. Above this there is a 20 to 30 cm layer of wet snow that has consolidated over a moist snowpack to ground.
There were a few small wet loose out of extreme terrain where we suspect rock fall or cornice chunks were triggering.
We are still avoiding steep terrain but we did ski the line off the ridge and it was supportive to skis so was just ok.
